Piece of Pizza Pie

We are leaving for Family Camp for 4 days on Friday so I am using up what is in the refrigerator. Except that I have been doing that for the past 4 days now and we are down to no fresh veggies. A grocery store was in the game plan for today to pick up one veggie to go with some ground beef and rice for dinner until...I asked 2 of my 3 boys what they would like. Pizza of course. Not the local pizza shop kind either. Mom's pizza. And I am happy to make it but there goes the veggies for dinner. Seriously while you can add peppers, onions, mushrooms to a pizza there is not 5 servings on any given pizza or 3 for that matter. Don't even kid yourself. There isn't. Don't feel bad. We're having pizza remember, cheer up!

I am sharing our favorite pizza crust recipe handed down from my dear friend Diana. I will be adding some whole wheat for texture, I mean nutrition, but it is her recipe. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to say that pizza is unhealthy. It can be, but it can also be a treat highly prized for the trade off. The boys are outside mowing grass as I type in trade for homemade pizza. Who knew pizza could build character?

If you are interested in the debate of white vs. wheat flour this blog post from Butter Believer makes some good points. While I won't be stocking the pantry with 25lb bags of the white stuff I also do use it on occasion and I also don't feel bad about it.

Grab a glass of Northern Ice Tea and enjoy the video and music!

In the video you may have noticed I had enough dough for 3 pizzas. The recipe below is enough for 2 so if you need to make 3 or more just adjust the quantities.

Pizza Dough
2 packages active dry yeast
pinch of sugar
1 1/4c lukewarm water
3 1/2c flour (I used 1c whole wheat and the rest white)
1 tsp sea salt
1/4c oil (I use olive oil)

Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza
ground beef
bacon
cheddar cheese
mozzarella cheese
tomatoes
sweet pepper
pizza sauce

  1. Wow, that was really interesting! I liked how you used a square pan for your dough, rather than a round one. Ha ha, I was wondering what kind of monster pizza you were going to end up with, but then realized that you made enough for 3 pizzas. :)

Thanks so much for sharing at From the Farm Blog Hop!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Kathy! When I went to share on your hop it I didn't have a picture besides the video so that was the easiest one to use. I didn't catch the "white" flower as being a pun. It works though! How clever ;)
